The Festival welcomes the return of Hilary Hahn in her fourth Festival appearance. She first performed at PMF in 1998 playing the Stravinsky Violin Concerto. She performed the Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 2 in 2001. Her most recent PMF performances were the Bach Violin Concerto No. 1 and the Double Concerto in 2002. The Prokofiev Violin Concerto No, 1 was first heard at PMF in 1966 with Norman Paulu and Thor Johnson conducting and most recently in 2008 with Alyssa Park and Victor Yampolsky. It was also performed in 1993 by Frank Almond and Byron Hanson conducting. The program opens with the Barber Essay No. 2. The only previous PMF performance of the Barber Second Essay was in 1998 with Victor Yampolsky conducting. The 60th season of the Peninsula Music Festival concludes with Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5, heard in its only prior Festival performance in 2003 with Victor Yampolsky conducting.
